And just to help kick your week off on a bright note, there’s also a giveaway (and discount code!) involved, so make sure you scroll to the bottom and check out how to enter, you’ll be glad you did! 😉

But first, a little background…

I met Lisa, the owner of Bramble Blossom Studio, a few years ago through a networking group that we both attended. After chatting and making a genuine connection, I came on board to help Lisa with a variety of pop-up events that she organized throughout the Lower Mainland. In this time pre-blog life, this was my first experience with a group of individuals and small businesses coming together to help promote each other; for all intents and purposes, these were my first introductions to collaborations.

Working with Lisa and helping with these events was an awesome experience and a great learning opportunity for me. I’ve kept tabs on her over the years and it’s been lovely having the chance to catch up and reconnect. She is a truly talented creative soul who pours her heart into her work and I’m so excited that we have the chance to work together again, this time bringing our creative worlds together here on OHP.

Introducing Bramble Blossom Studio

When you visit the Bramble Blossom Studio website, you will find all manner of handcrafted macrame beauty, as well as a selection of refillable hand-poured soy wax candles (I love that she offers a refill discount, such a great eco-friendly idea!). From large and small-scale wall hangings to smaller pieces including table runners, coasters, and keychains, Lisa creates each piece with love and attention to detail (she also creates custom pieces upon request in case you have something specific in mind). Using organic fibres and natural found objects as her base materials, she also incorporates a selection of textiles purchased from fair trade companies to enhance her designs, sourcing from local or Canadian companies whenever possible.

“Bramble Blossom is a dream project for me. I grew up with a love of colours and textures and was lucky enough to have teachers who wanted to share their creative talents with me”.

As a full time entrepreneur with an Agency to run, Bramble Blossom is the creative outlet that provides Lisa with much-coveted ‘me time’- and we all know how important that is! After years of building her business and creative team, she is now finding time to explore her years-long passion for weaving and textiles through Bramble Blossom, and she’s supporting other small businesses as much as possible along the way. But getting to this point was quite the (health) journey, and I asked Lisa if she would be willing to share about her health issues that were the catalyst for a significant shift in her life. I have always been inspired by Lisa, but her health issues and rising from the challenges they presented to her made me admire and respect her even more, and I think they are important part of the Bramble Blossom narrative. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing this with us.

“My journey to get to the place I am now, has been interesting at times…”

About 10 years ago, Lisa experienced health issues that were debilitating to almost every aspect of her life. After ending up in the hospital at one point, she finally found an answer for her health challenges and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Just as our family experienced with Ariana’s diet challenges over the years, many think that all is solved simply by going gluten-free and making a few changes, but it’s a little more complicated than that, and can be quite a long process back to health.

It took Lisa 3 years to heal and finally feel normal again, giving up a full-time music career along the way (she’s a creative soul through and through!). But instead of letting it drag her down, she adopted the mantra “things always happen for a reason”, and took the opportunity to shift paths from commuting as a “hired gun” consultant to moving her business to a self-contained boutique agency. Since then, Lisa has built her agency into a 14 member team of positive and talented individuals (mostly women) who motivate and inspire her daily. And that is where we come back full circle back to the present with Bramble Blossom Studio, her business passion project.

When Lisa and I first began discussing a collaboration, I was excited to work with her again and grew even more in awe of her creative talents. Scrolling through her Instagram feed and the Bramble Blossom website, I had a hard time selecting which pieces I wanted to showcase here on the blog, each piece is more beautiful than the last! Ultimately Lisa generously offered me the choice between two of her large scale wall hangings and kindly also sent along a set of Macrame Coasters in the prettiest burnt orange colour (Lisa also included one of her hand-poured soy wax tealights which I’m looking forward to lighting in my Himalayan salt candle holder).

Decisions, decisions! Adding Bramble Blossom pieces to our home

When it came time to choose a piece for our home, I opted for the Teal Waters Wall Hanging, a beautiful layered piece made with a variety of knotting styles and silk sari remnants. What I love most about this piece is the beautiful teal material made from sari remnants that add a vibrant pop of colour at the back. Lisa sources the sari remnants from a Canadian supplier who works with fair trade companies that ensure the women they employ in the India sari industry are paid a fair wage. The story behind this piece makes me love it even more, and I know this is an important mission for Lisa as well.

Aaaand let’s just take a minute to chat about those coasters, shall we? These boho Macrame Coasters are even more beautiful in person and come in a variety of colour options (6 available on the Bramble Blossom website + custom colours available upon request). They are roughly 4″ * 8″ including tassel length, making them perfect for even your largest drinkware (also how pretty would these be under a vase or candle??). Since they’re made with 100% organic cotton, these coasters are great for wicking up moisture to protect your tabletops as you enjoy your favourite beverage. Added bonus: they’re easy to keep looking like new- simply hand wash and air dry when they need refreshing. These are available in sets of 4, but can also be made in larger quantities to suit your needs- ie for parties or wedding favours.

Alongside the 100% organic cotton macrame rope standard in Lisa’s work, the wood used as the foundation of her Teal Waters piece- as well as many of her other wall hangings- is foraged locally from the Fort to Fort Trail in Fort Langley. I love that her pieces incorporate locally- sourced materials and that so much time and love go into everything she creates.
