Spring & Summer Style with Chews

Anyone else counting down the days to Summer? This Spring hasn’t been the greatest for weather and it’s got me craving the sun and heat in a major way. Mac’s All Grown Up: From 5 Cent Candies to Simply Great Coffee

Posted in Giveaways by

Adulting. It’s a thing apparently. And whether we feel like it or not once we get to a certain stage in life we’re deemed grown ups and old enough to do all the things that come with the territory. Sure it’s a lot of fun- I can eat too much ice cream, buy whatever shoes I want, and pursue a career I love- but it’s also busy. I don’t know how many times in a day I joke about coffee and wine (couldn’t adult without them!) and I appreciate coffee even more when it’s hot.

And thankfully there’s plenty of options to choose from with a growing selection for busy days when you’re running from one place to the next to the next without a lot of time. When I was a kid Mac’s Convenience Stores were the corner store you went to after school, after practice, or ‘just because’ to stock up on 5 cent candies and they’re stepping up their coffee game to make getting that perfect cup of coffee a little easier and faster- perfect for busy grown ups (but I still love my 5 cent candies! ūüėČ ). They are now offering gourmet selections with their Simply Great Coffee machines available at locations throughout Western Canada with popular choices such as lattes, mochacinos, and dark roast coffee- perfect if you’re stopping to pick up a snack on the go, popping in with the kids, or just don’t want to drop five bucks for a good cup of coffee.

If you like trying new things and want to give the new Simply Great Coffee a try, I’ve got some coupons for free coffee to giveaway- enter below for 1 of 5 sets of coupons to try the new Simply Great Coffee (all of the barista- style drinks  such as lattes) and Premium coffee (drip coffee available in medium and dark roast). So the next time you’re craving a good cup of coffee, skip the drive through and pop into your local Mac’s to try their new varieties. You save a few bucks and get a good cup of coffee on the go (plus maybe a few candies to reward yourself while you’re at it!). Win- win. Enter below!

To see how the Simply Great Coffee barista machines work, see this video for more.

On Letting Go & Loving Yourself {+ Giveaway}

When it rains for 2 months straight it makes it interesting when trying to organize an outdoor photoshoot. And of course living here it rains a lot¬†this time of year. So that means sometimes you just need to go for it and shoot in the rain which makes for some crazy hair and plenty of laughs trying to get the shots you want. Thankfully Akane (the photographer I’ve been working with on a few posts) is pretty much up for anything and we ended the shoot with some hot chocolate to warm up. And as you’ll see in the photos, we just tried to laugh through the rain and make the most of the beautiful location. The photos for this post were important to me and I’m glad a little rain didn’t stop us.
But enough about the photoshoot adventure, I’m really excited for this post for a few reasons. The first is that yoga and fitness came back into my life in a big way this year; I had a big reminder in the Summer that I can’t forget to take care of myself and it was the kick in the butt I needed to get back into shape. I’m no star athlete, but I feel better mentally and physically knowing that I’ve made time to exercise in the week. I’m calmer, happier, and it feels good to be taking steps towards a healthier life overall. I’ve made it a priority, had to move some things around, but ultimately it hasn’t been as challenging as I thought it would to fit into my routine. Sometimes it’s just a few minutes of yoga at the end of the day, but it makes a difference. The second reason I’m really excited for this post is that comes with a GIVEAWAY (the last one of the year!) for you, the readers who have supported the blog and me, your love and support means more than you’ll ever know. I thought what better way to go into the holiday season than with a gift for you? I’ve teamed up with some pretty amazing brands-¬†Try On Love, Kristina Benson Art, Free Reign, Mint & Birch, and Built for This Baby– to help you treat yourself, and to serve as a reminder that you can’t forget to LOVE YOURSELF as well as everyone else you care for.

When I was organizing this post, I wanted to work with brands that would help me share my message about not forgetting to make time for yourself, to LOVE yourself, whenever and however you get the time to do so. I know it can be tough, so that’s why I’m hoping this post will help you feel loved and serve as a reminder that what you do is important, you are amazing, and just trying¬†counts for something. We all have challenges and bad days, but we can still find a few minutes for ourselves and it’s so important to do so, so we can be the best version for everyone we love and for ourselves.
So why did I choose the brands I did for this giveaway? With the tee I’m wearing from¬†Try on Love, you probably don’t need any more explanation. This shop is all about being a gentle reminder to love. To love yourself and others, it really does make a difference in the world. What better message could you hope for? Each piece has a small quartz gemstone- the universal gemstone of love- sewn in as a special touch, and I felt these pieces spoke to the message I’ve been sharing about these past few months. Love is such a powerful force, and one that can help people when they’re hurting the most; you never know when a simple gesture can make the difference in someone’s day.¬†Kristina Benson, the talented lady behind the leggings, has combined her passion of art and fitness to create wearable art that becomes a part of your personal journey. The ones I’m wearing are the Surrender¬†leggings. I didn’t realize there was a special meaning behind them until I spoke more with Kristina about them and how this design represented letting go and being at peace. Without knowing it, I had made my selection based on where I was emotionally: trying to let go of some things and move on, to be at peace with things I had been struggling with. All of her designs have a story behind them and they’re as beautiful as they are comfortable to wear.
And if that water bottle from¬†Free Reign¬†looks familiar, it’s because it’s the same one I received on my yoga retreat this Fall (see here and here for more). The founder, Melanie, suffers from chronic pain and is helping to spread the word about not suffering in silence, to have compassion, and to be open about your journey. This lady, her message, and her products have a special place in my heart for very personal reasons and I’m so grateful to have met her. Individuals like this are the positive change we so need in this world and she helped me earlier this year as I worked through some very personal challenges.¬†Mint & Birch¬†is another brand I’ve loved for a long time, and Jessica’s beautiful pieces are all handmade by this talented mama. This bar necklace is a custom piece that says Live Laugh Love¬†in Latin. When she asked me what I wanted, I knew I wanted something I would wear everyday as a reminder for what’s important to me, to represent the journey I’d been on this year. She hand- stamps her pieces, making each one unique and one of a kind, and I love that she pours her heart into her work.
And finally,¬†Built for This Baby¬†is a program I’m excited to share about, helping women to find their inner strength through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I attended one of Georgia’s workshops this Fall and learnt so much about how my well being and emotional state was much more than what was going on outside of myself- nutrition, sleep, and self care all play in a role- and she reminded me of that. It can be hard, but we can’t forget about ourselves; we have to be advocates for ourselves as well as those we care for. Through yoga, conversation, and guidance from this woman of many talents, I reflected on my journey through motherhood and how it has impacted me, how it affects all women differently. You don’t have to be a new mom to appreciate this program and I am grateful programs like this exist to help us feel connected with ourselves and others as we embrace all that life throws at us, especially when it can feel like we’re losing ourselves trying to keep up with everything.
So now you can see why I fell in love with each of these amazing collaborators and the people behind them. There are so many individuals working to do good in this world, to help us move through life the best way we can, and to be ok when things don’t go smoothly. It’s a journey we’re all on together, and you can’t forget about yourself along the way. This has been a big learning curve for me this year, and I feel like it’s one many others are going through as well. Feeling loved, recognized, and having your feelings acknowledged can make such a difference when you feel overwhelmed. I hope to carry into 2017 with this new- found wisdom and build on what this year started and that you’ll enjoy some exciting things with me and the blog in the new year. This isn’t the last post of the year, but it’s one close to my heart, and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did putting it together.
So what’s up for grabs for one of you lucky readers?
РLOVE tee from Try on Love
Рwater bottle from Free Reign
Р$40 towards a cuff bracelet from Mint & Birch
– 1- on- 1 nutritional consultation with Georgia of Built for this Baby
Рplus all readers can enjoy 25% off a pair of leggings from Kristina Benson Art with code LEGGINGS 2538
Enter below and enjoy making time for YOU in 2017! Thank you to everyone who has supported TPB so far including you, my readers, and the amazing brands I’ve been able to work with.

Telling Time in Style with JORD Watches {+ Giveaway}

Posted in Uncategorized by

Who else agrees: the right accessories finish make an outfit. They’re the details that bring everything together. And be honest: how often do you notice a great pair of earrings, a hot pair of shoes, or an awesome watch before you notice the clothes? This happens to me all the time and so many times it’s love at first sight. And this time, it’s about a watch. One helluva of a beautiful, wood watch.

JORD makes timepieces that combine classic with contemporary with watches made out of a variety of wood including sandalwood like the one I’m wearing below. They’ve taken something traditional and made it a little more edgy, a little more of a statement. Something about the wood makes it jump out a little more than if it were a traditional metal piece. Even though they offer both men’s and women’s styles, I love that many of them have a unisex vibe- I don’t think mine screams ultra girly and I love that. I can wear it with jeans and t- shirt or pair it with a dressy outfit and heels to add contrast. It’s a heavier piece that you can wear on it’s own or stacked with bracelets and it will look amazing either way. You just have to decide which one you want more, which I think is the hardest part! ūüėČ

… And just in case you find yourself falling in love with these watches like I did, I get to give away a $75 shop credit towards a JORD watch for someone to splurge on themselves! Scroll to the end of the post to enter!

Outfit Details:
Sweater, jeans & boots- My own
Dark Sandalwood watch- JORD
Wood brimmed hat- Austra
Bracelets- Quinsco
About JORD
JORD offers handcrafted wood timepieces that make a statement and suit a modern lifestyle. Their watches are made from materials such as bamboo, ebony, and sandalwood (like the one I’m wearing) and are a fresh twist on a classic item with styles available for both men and women. Whether you’re a watch lover or not, their pieces will have you putting yours on everyday.

Aaaand let’s not forget about that GIVEAWAY I mentioned! I have a $75 e- voucher to give to one lucky reader and for a fun added bonus, everyone who enters (aside from the winner) will receive a $20 e- gift card from JORD!

Keep Them Smiling: 7 Tips for Brushing Kid’s Teeth {Review + Giveaway}

Posted in Uncategorized by

October is National Dental Hygiene month according to the American Dental Hygienist’s Association which means it’s a great time to brush up (no pun intended!!!) on how to help your kids keep their teeth clean and healthy (can I also point out how ironic this is with Halloween at the end of the month, but I guess also good timing since there might be a lot of sugar kicking around our houses in a few weeks?).

Brushing teeth is an important part of our daily routine, even if the kids aren’t always the biggest fans! I’ve teamed up with Eggie Baby to share some tips to help making tooth brushing easier, better, and more fun, plus I’m sharing about their wheat straw kid’s toothbrushes and have a little something fun to go with today’s post: I’ve got a $75 shop credit up for grabs over on Instagram from them! (Scroll to the end of the post for contest details) But first…

We’ve been trying out the toothbrushes from Eggie Baby when it’s time to clean the kid’s teeth and while Liam is still a little squirmy (why I don’t have any photos of him here!), Ari is pretty good about sitting still while we brush her teeth. She also usually likes to have a turn after us, so she was perfect to help share about Eggie Baby’s toothbrushes made just for kids.

With little hands, it’s always great when you can find a toothbrush that’s easy to hold- especially for those kids who want to do everything, including brushing their teeth- all by themselves. Not only are these toothbrushes the perfect size for kids, they have a non- slip grip that makes them easy to hold onto. I also like that there’s no rough/ square edges and that the bristles are tapered, to avoid hurting little mouths.
Made out of wheat straw (which is still ok for kids with gluten sensitivities as wheat protein isn’t present in the straw), these toothbrushes are biodegradable, making them an eco- friendly alternative to the more common plastic options. If you struggle with brushing your kid’s teeth, the handle is in the shape of a cute giraffe, which might be just enough to distract a squirmy little one while you brush their teeth; it could also help interest them in this daily routine by making it a little more fun (sometimes these little details are what make the difference, amiright mamas?!). Available in 3 colours, each of your kids can have their own and know which one is theirs. Now the trick is making sure they brush everyday! And to make that easier, see below for some tips from Eggie Baby. Smile on my friends!

7 Tips for Brushing Kid’s Teeth
1. Get your kids interested in daily dental hygiene. Even if it’s not their favourite thing to do (and let’s face it, for most kids it isn’t!), make it more fun by choosing a toothbrush and toothpaste they like and will want to use.
Source: Oral B
2. Did you know you’re supposed to replace your toothbrushes every 3 months? That’s a lot of toothbrushes going into landfills! Try choosing an eco- friendly, biodegradable toothbrush to help lessen the environmental impact (even if it seems like a small thing, think about how many toothbrushes get thrown out regularly).
Source: About News
3. Brush children’s teeth in the morning and at bedtime. Once they’ve turned 3 start using a pea- sized amount of toothpaste on a soft toothbrush to help against tooth decay (I’ve heard mixed information regarding using fluoride toothpaste, so I’ll leave that up to you based on what you think is best)
Source: HealthLinkBC
4. Teach your kids the “2 for 2” rule around the time they turn 3: brushing twice a day for two minutes each time they brush their teeth. If they don’t like brushing their teeth, try turning this into a game to make brushing their teeth more fun. If they like to brush their teeth on their own, teach them some good techniques for brushing such as using gentle circles (this helps avoid hurting the gums), and brushing from front to back to help them clean every surface of every tooth.
Source: aboutkidshealth
5. You can transfer bacteria that causes cavities through saliva, so avoid sharing toothbrushes and things like cutlery with your children.
Source: HealthLinkBC
6. Kids who develop cavities in their baby teeth are more likely to develop them as adults. Visit the dentist to help keep your child’s teeth clean from an early age and especially once their adult teeth start to come in.
Source: Colgate
7. If your baby doesn’t like having their teeth brushed and tends to squirm, give them their own toothbrush to hold so they feel more in control while you brush their teeth. If they seem interested, let them try on their own with some help from you so that brushing their teeth is a more fun experience. Look for toothbrushes with an anti- slip coating or grip to help make them easier for little hands to hold.
Source: Baby Centre

Product Features:
– biodegradable & eco- friendly: the handle is made from wheat straw
-non- toxic, non- allergenic and gluten free (the wheat straw doesn’t store protein, gluten, or allergens)
– premium soft tapered bristles make brushing more effective by cleaning those hard to reach areas
– gentle on little mouths with a smooth curved brush head with no sharp edges
– recommended for ages 3+
– available in 3 colours: green, blue & pink

And now about that giveaway…!

Want to make brushing teeth & teething a little easier for your kids? Head over to the blog’s Instagram page and enter to win a $75 shop credit from Eggie Baby plus one of their giraffe toothbrushes in your choice of colour! (This contest is open to Canada and US residents)

#PlayTestShare Fun & Games with Raincoast Books {+Giveaway}

Posted in Uncategorized by
It’s that time of year when we start to spend more time inside and have to get creative with keeping the kids busy. It’s not always easy (is it ever???) keeping them entertained when the weather isn’t so great and everyone is getting restless. Who else can relate? Crafts, reading, games, and puzzles are some of our favourite indoor activities and I try to have a variety on hand to keep Ari occupied on days when we’re stuck inside.
I had the pleasure of working with Raincoast Books earlier this year (see here, here, and here for other posts with them) and they have organized a great line- up of fun books & activities to make the cooler months when we get cozy inside a little more entertaining. I’m sharing about 2 of their games/ activities from their most recent #PlayTestShare collection plus get to give a lucky reader 2 games/ activities of their choice (see below to enter!). Check out the 2 we got to try and get some fun ideas to keep your kids entertained this Fall!

Herve Tullet’s Zazazoom! A Game of Imagination
This 3- in- 1 open- ended game helps kids improve memory skills and use their imaginations. One part matching, one part dominoes, and one part memory, take your pick based on your child’s interests and abilities with Matching Game, Road Builder,  and  Pattern Grower. This popular children’s author (titles include Press Here, Mix It Up, and Let’s Play!) has created a fun set of games that encourage creativity and constructive thinking.
I love that you can pick the game(s) suited to your child’s interests and how each one encourages kids to use their imagination and creativity a little differently. We’re big fans of Herve Tulle in our house (see this post) and this set of games is perfect to accompany his books. I like that each game posed a different challenge and Ari and her friends really had fun playing them (I think Road Builder was the biggest hit).

Punch Out & Play Book
Loaded with 10 puzzles and 13 classic games including Memory, Go Fish, and Dominoes, this book is full of fun for kids of all ages. With art and designs by Laura Ljungkvist, the book comes with punch- out envelopes to easily store all of the games and puzzles your kids punch out.
This book is loaded with activities and kids will probably want to help punch out all the pieces (the 3 girls definitely did!). I’ve seen ideas on Pinterest for busy bags and this book reminded me of them- simple ideas to keep kids entertained with the added bonus of them using their brains at the same time. This would be perfect to bring on a plane if you travel with your kids and need to keep them entertained for a long period of time, or pack a few of the envelopes in the car on days when you run errands with the kids. With 23 games and puzzles, you can switch up the selection at home and in the car so your kids don’t get bored playing with the same one all the time.

To see all of the games/ activities included in Raincoast Books most recent #PlayTestShare selection, click here. And for more ways to enter, visit my friend Tamara’s post on her blog Discovering Parenthood! Click here to see her #PlayTestShare post with Raincoast Books.

Want to have some fun indoors this Fall? Enter below for your chance to win any 2 of the 9 games/ activities from the most recent #PlayTestShare selection!

From Summer to Fall: 5 Days of Sanuk Style- DAY 5 {+ Giveaway!}

Posted in Uncategorized by
It’s FriYAY! This has been a fun week on the blog and I hope you’ve liked this post series with Sanuk as much as I have. Today is the fifth and final day (and the last day you can enter to win a pair for yourself!) and just like the outfit from Day 3, I’ve added a warm layer to show how simple it is to up the cozy ante for the cooler Fall weather.
No matter what time of year it is, I love a pop of colour and the great thing about these cute shoes is they go with pretty much everything. A tank and skinny jeans are classic wardrobe pieces and are great as the foundation for a day- to- night outfit- just switch up your hair and add some pretty jewellery and you’re ready for drinks with the girls or date night with hubby. The bracelets from Quinsco that have appeared throughout this series are so pretty and I think they’re perfect arm candy for everything from casual to dressy outfits- those marble bracelets would be beautiful with a LBD, dontcha think? I hope you like the final outfit of the week & don’t forget to enter below!!!

Outfit Details
‘Drop It Like It’s Yacht’ Shoes- Sanuk
Tank top & green skinny jeasn- The Rag Machine
Bracelets- Quinsco
Leather vest, sweater & hat- my own

That chunky sweater & black hat have become two of my favourite Fall & Winter pieces, and I think having a variety of neutral items that pair with more colourful pieces is a good style mantra. Those ‘Drop It Like It’s Yacht’ shoes are so comfy and they’re a great option to transition from Summer to Fall before you break out the booties and gumboots. If you’re like me and love some good vintage/ thrifted pieces, make sure you hit up The Rag Machine for some fun pieces for Fall. No matter if it’s a hair & makeup done kind of day, or a topknot and more coffee kind of day, I hope the 5 outfits from this week have given you some style inspo and show that you don’t have to think too hard to put a cute outfit together!
