I never used to be a ‘hat person’. But now I can honestly say I have a little bit of an addiction. And all the cute Summer hats I keep seeing everywhere ain’t helping. I’ve seen a variety of different versions online of big hats with writing on them and kept thinking ‘I can make that’- so I did just that. Hats can get a bit pricey, but I’m happy to say this wide- brimmed cutie cost me less than $10 (the hat I used for this DIY was $5 at IKEA folks!) and is super easy to make. I also love the idea of making a mini version with a kids hat for some cute Summer twinning (if you find one let me know!). Just pick a favourite word or phrase, pick up some thread or twine and glue. It’s. That. Simple. Pair with your favourite swimsuit and sandals for a beachy #ootd! See below for the steps.
Wide- brimmed hat (I bought mine at IKEA for $5- I also found a similar one on Amazon)
Black embroidery thread or twine (I doubled mine up and twisted it together so the design would show up clearly)
Fine- tipped marker
Hot glue gun
Start by picking a phrase and writing the letters with the fine- tipped marker on the brim using dots or dashed lines
2. Using the glue gun, trace over the letters with hot glue, doing about 2- 3″ at a time so the glue doesn’t cool before you press the embroidery thread onto the design
3. Continue until your phrase is finished. For some letters like ‘a’, it might be easier to cut the thread and restart the letter rather than doubling over the thread you’ve already glued down
It’s FriYAY! This has been a fun week on the blog and I hope you’ve liked this post series with Sanuk as much as I have. Today is the fifth and final day (and the last day you can enter to win a pair for yourself!) and just like the outfit from Day 3, I’ve added a warm layer to show how simple it is to up the cozy ante for the cooler Fall weather.
No matter what time of year it is, I love a pop of colour and the great thing about these cute shoes is they go with pretty much everything. A tank and skinny jeans are classic wardrobe pieces and are great as the foundation for a day- to- night outfit- just switch up your hair and add some pretty jewellery and you’re ready for drinks with the girls or date night with hubby. The bracelets from Quinsco that have appeared throughout this series are so pretty and I think they’re perfect arm candy for everything from casual to dressy outfits- those marble bracelets would be beautiful with a LBD, dontcha think? I hope you like the final outfit of the week & don’t forget to enter below!!!
Leather vest, sweater & hat- my own
That chunky sweater & black hat have become two of my favourite Fall & Winter pieces, and I think having a variety of neutral items that pair with more colourful pieces is a good style mantra. Those ‘Drop It Like It’s Yacht’ shoes are so comfy and they’re a great option to transition from Summer to Fall before you break out the booties and gumboots. If you’re like me and love some good vintage/ thrifted pieces, make sure you hit up The Rag Machine for some fun pieces for Fall. No matter if it’s a hair & makeup done kind of day, or a topknot and more coffee kind of day, I hope the 5 outfits from this week have given you some style inspo and show that you don’t have to think too hard to put a cute outfit together!
Happy hump day all! It’s Wednesday which brings me to the third outfit in my style series with Sanuk. Hands up who pretty much lives in jeans most of the year? I love everything from a slim- fit dark wash to a distressed, relaxed pair. Basically I have a thing for denim and I’m not ashamed to admit it. The pair I picked up at The Rag Machine in this post are super soft and comfy and are perfect for shifting outfits from Summer to Fall.
I swapped in a couple of things with this outfit to take it from Summer casual to Fall cozy (plus it shows how simple it is to change the look of an outfit). As much as I hate saying goodbye to Summer, jeans are a favourite staple I’m looking forward to bringing back. I paired this outfit with the Yoga Sling sandals from Sanuk and love how comfortable everything was- proof that style doesn’t have to be tricky or uncomfortable. See all the outfit details below and make sure you enter to win a pair of Sanuks for yourself!
I love how simple swaps can change the look of an outfit. Pop on a snapback on a messy hair day for a cute casual look, or layer on a sweater to stay cozy. Jeans are pretty much fool- proof and I love how well this distressed pair from The Rag Machine goes with the Sanuk Yoga Slings. Kinda surfer- chic, dontcha think? Oh, and that bag was just plain fun for me. It was a super simple DIY project I whipped up and I love how it turned out (check the link to the DIY below).
