Spring & Summer Style with Chews

Anyone else counting down the days to Summer? This Spring hasn’t been the greatest for weather and it’s got me craving the sun and heat in a major way. The West Coast is a beautiful place to live but we have so much grey and rain that we earn the blue skies and hot weather for the few short months they’re here.

And with that sun comes all the things for Spring and Summer in our wardrobes: tees, shorts, flip flips, maxi dresses… I’ll take one of everything. ;).  I teamed up with Chews Boutique on a fashion feature in the Fall (see that here) and we’ve got together again to share some style ideas for the Spring and Summer (also perfect to take on vacation!). We paired everything with items you’ve probably already got in your closest to show how easy and versatile her pieces are to wear- perfect if you like pieces that can multitask and go with a variety of items you already own.

All of the pieces Chelsey carries in her online shop combine comfort with style, with everything under $70. Comfort, style, aaaand at a good price? Check, check, check! Like I said, I’ll take one of everything ;). See below for 5 outfits perfect for the warmer weather featuring pieces available from Chews- just add sun!!!

Mother’s Day High Tea

Sometimes you want to take something you enjoy and make it a little special. A cup of tea and some baked treats are simple pleasures that many of us enjoy, but have you had the pleasure of trying a high tea? It’s like taking the tea parties from your childhood and elevating them to a grown- up version- princess dresses and crowns optional. 😉 The finger sandwiches, British- inspired sweet treats, and a perfectly brewed cup of tea are a part of the experience and it’s something that is enjoyable year- round. Whether you enjoy a day out with some girlfriends or include the kids, I thought this was a sweet idea for Mother’s Day. There are plenty of places to go, but you can also enjoy the high tea experience at home with services like those offered by SocieTea Events, where you can select a package to enjoy in your own home or garden.

Hosting a high tea at home can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make it- start with a selection of teas and treats and go from the there!- and it’s an opportunity to dress up and have some fun (have you seen all the cute Cake inspired pieces from The Sweet Life Apparel?). The lovely ladies from Sequel Events helped me style and shoot this high tea and we definitely indulged in our girly sides- add in a yummy cake from Hello Cake Co, a few simple DIYs, and some pretty touches like the ones included here from SocieTea Events (they also provide some decor items) and Raggy Girl Vintage, and you’ve got yourself a beautiful afternoon. And if you’ve got something else in mind for Mother’s Day (have you checked out this year’s gift guide?), how cute would it be to host a high tea for a bridal or baby shower? It’s amazing what some pretty vintage- inspired touches and fresh flowers can do. See below for the final results!

Easter Bunting Printables

Looking for some last- minute Easter decor for this weekend? Buntings are a cute and simple way to add a pop of colour to your home and make for a fun craft project for the kids. All you have to do is print, cut, add some string, and hang (plus a little glue for the letters- easy!)!

I’ve got two different printable buntings below: a solid colour lettered bunting  and a bunting template with stick- on letters (use the shape as a template to cut out your own bunting from paper and then glue on the letters or just print the letters and tape onto twine or string for a cute ‘Happy Easter’ garland). I’ve created each in a variety of colours so you can pick one to match your Easter decor or favourite Spring colour- I even created grey versions in case you prefer a more monochromatic option. See below for instructions. Hope everyone has a happy Easter!

Printing tip: make sure to select ‘fit to page’ to ensure the bunting templates print as they appear. You can also scale the size down if you’d prefer smaller bunting pieces (I scaled down to 35% for letter garland).

Spring #OOTD for Little Ones with Watermelon Tree Kids

We spent a fun morning yesterday morning at Ritual Ice Cream in Fort Langley shooting photos for an upcoming Easter collab with Creative Wife and Joyful Worker and Discovering Parenthood. Considering there were six little ones running around, I think we pulled it off pretty well and the kids handled it like champs. It didn’t hurt that there was the promise of sweet treats after the photos either. 😉 Sugar rush and all, it was a fun morning spent with friends and the perfect way to spend the first day of Spring.

There will be plenty more of all things Spring and Easter from that shoot coming soon to all three of our blogs, but until then I wanted to share the sweet outfits my two little blondies got to model from Watermelon Tree Kids, a sweet children’s store in Fort Langley, that stocks a variety of quality baby and kid’s items ranging from larger, well- known companies, to a variety of local brands. I had the chance to check out the store before Christmas with a girlfriend and love everything about this store and the mother- daughter team behind it. They were very generous helping us dress the kids in the sweetest outfits for Spring and if you’ve been looking for an outfit for your kids, they’ve definitely got plenty of cute items to choose from!

Ari’s dress- WHEAT

Liam’s shirt & shorts- Ben Sherman

Both provided by Watermelon Tree Kids

I’m a sucker for getting the kids dressed up, even if it only lasts a short while. Ari’s dress was super soft and comfortable, and Liam killed me with cuteness is his button- up and shorts. (If you follow the blog on Instagram you’ll also know that he loved when they came off and was running around in just the shirt and diaper- what is it with boys?!). I also love the added bonus of supporting a local family- run business that cares about the quality of the items they carry (Sidenote: they also have a great play area and couch in the back of the store to help entertain the kids and provide a space to breast feed if needed while you shop). You can tell the owners really care about their customer’s experience and I appreciate that it’s a kid- friendly place to shop. The next time you’re in Fort Langley I hope you pay this sweet shop a visit. <3

Thank you to Ritual Ice Cream for letting us shoot the photos at your beautiful location and Watermelon Tree Kids for providing the outfits for all of the kids!

Pretty Spring Table DIY

Are you hosting Easter Dinner this year? Entertaining can be a lot of fun, but it can get expensive and be a lot of work- especially when it comes to the dishes and clean up! Today I’m sharing some fun and simple ways to set a Spring table including this pretty DIY table runner made from ribbon and fresh flowers/ greens. Added bonus: I used paper plates and napkins and wooden cutlery for an easy clean up instead of linen, china and silverware: just pop them into recycling and the compost when you clear the table and you’re done! Scroll to the end of the post for all the details.

I love finding inexpensive ways to decorate and finding ways to use items I already have, and setting the table for special occasions is the perfect chance to do this. When it comes to entertaining, I love spending the time with loved ones, I just don’t enjoy the time it takes to clean up after having guests. So I opted to set this table with as many recyclable/ compostable items as possible, as well as ones that can be used again- such as the mason jars and pretty candle holders– to cut down on clean up. I used these beautiful paper plates as the jumping- off point (can you believe they’re paper?!) and went from there. The silver chargers I already had, and I simply folded up some paper napkins to lay the cutlery on. When guests are finished, the plates can go into recycling and the cutlery and napkins can be composted. All I’ll need to do is pop the mason jars in the dishwasher and wipe down the chargers with a cloth. And then there’s that table runner…
I love making pretty centrepieces, but I don’t like trying to see over them to talk to people across the table, so this low- lying beauty is perfect. All you need are some pretty fresh flowers and greens, and any other materials you would like to use. I laid down craft paper to serve as placemats (another easy thing to clean up!), then layered satin ribbon on top running the length of the table. I used ivy as the base then added some dusty miller and roses- use whatever you’ve got in the garden or pick up some fresh cuts at the grocery store. This doesn’t have to be expensive to make a statement. If you’d like the roses to last longer, pop them in floral tubes with water. For a fun finishing touch for Easter, give each guest an egg and paint pen (or use a regular/ permanent marker) so they can decorate an egg while they wait for dinner to be served- this is a great way to keep the kids entertained and it’s fun for the adults too. I hope this post gives you some ideas for your own Easter table! See the checklist below for what I used.
Table checklist:

Place settings:
– paper plates- Heather and Gem
– wooden cutlery- Grace Miller & Co
– kraft paper (used as placemats, I used a roll I bought from IKEA)
– chargers
– napkins
– mason jars
– paper straws
Table decoration:
– wooden candleholders- From the Seeds
– table runner:
— satin ribbon (I just laid it down on the table, but you can use double- sided tape if you’d like it secured in place)
— fresh greens- seeded eucalyptus, nagi podocarpus (used in a lot of flower bouquets), ivy, and dusty miller are a few ideas
— fresh flowers- pick flowers that suit your style and colours that suit the rest of the table

Thanks to
Heather and Gem,  From the Seeds, and Grace Miller & Co for helping me pull this all together!
